Need for Aggregate
By 2041, Ontario will be home to 18.2 million people, requiring 3.84 billion tonnes of aggregate to help build the roads, schools, hospitals, homes and other public buildings required to accommodate this population influx. It is vital that we secure high-quality, close-to-market aggregate to meet our province’s needs.
The aggregate industry is one of the most highly regulated in Ontario, governed by over 25 pieces of legislation. These regulations ensure that aggregate production is conducted in a safe, clean and environmentally responsible manner.
With the province investing billions in housing and infrastructure projects over the next 10 years, we are committed to ensuring these projects are realized and that the province is well-positioned to advance its plans for a post-pandemic economic recovery.
MIDDLE STREET PIT
Project Overview
Located on Snyder’s Road in Wilmot, Ontario, the proposed Middle Street pit is 28 hectares on the Waterloo Moraine. We have applied to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry for a Class A, above water table pit.
Sand, stone and gravel are the primary materials that will be extracted from this site, with the proposed extraction taking place in four phases over a 30-year period. The maximum depth of extraction will remain at 1.5 metres above the water table, posing no threat to water quality or supply.
Currently zoned agricultural, the pit will require a zoning change by the Township of Wilmot. For project updates, please fill out the form below. Thank you for your interest!
